GANDERBAL, Aug 25: National Conference (NC) vice president Omar Abdullah has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of copying his party’s manifesto ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
Speaking in Ganderbal, Abdullah highlighted the similarities between the two parties’ agendas and called on the PDP not to field candidates against the NC-Congress alliance to ensure a united front for the betterment of Jammu and Kashmir.
Abdullah made these remarks after PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti expressed her party’s willingness to support the NC-Congress coalition if it adopts the PDP’s agenda.
Abdullah responded by pointing out that the PDP’s manifesto already mirrors much of the NC’s proposals, including promises like providing 200 free electricity units, offering one lakh government jobs in the first year, and reopening cross-LoC routes.
In his address, Abdullah suggested that since the two parties share nearly identical agendas, the PDP should refrain from contesting the elections, thus strengthening the alliance’s position. He emphasized the need for unity in working towards a better future for the region.
Addressing party workers, Abdullah also reflected on his past decisions and expressed uncertainty about his future role in the elections.
Although urged by supporters to contest from Ganderbal, he maintained that any decision would be made in consultation with party members. He also urged his supporters to stay vigilant during the polls.
Abdullah’s remarks underscore the growing political tension in Jammu and Kashmir as the region prepares for assembly elections.
His call for a united front reflects the NC’s strategy to consolidate support and counter the challenges posed by rival parties.
