Nitin Gadkari made High-Level Visit to Uttarkashi Tunnel Collapse Site
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the site of the Uttarkashi tunnel collapse to oversee the ongoing rescue operations for the 40 workers trapped inside. Accompanied by Uttarakhand Chief Secretary SS Sandhu, their visit highlights the seriousness of the situation.
Rescue Efforts and Government’s Commitment
Chief Minister Dhami, speaking to ANI, emphasized the concerted efforts being made to rescue the trapped workers. He assured that the state government is fully prepared to provide all necessary assistance to the agencies involved in the rescue operation, underlining that saving lives is the top priority.
Multiple Approaches to Rescue Operation
In a significant development, the local administration has decided to deploy tree-cutting expert Ashiq Hussain as part of the rescue strategy. This comes as officials are exploring both horizontal and vertical approaches to reach the trapped workers. Deputy Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office, Mangesh Ghildiyal, and a former advisor to the PMO also visited the site to assess the operations.
Involvement of International Experts
Chris Cooper, a micro-tunneling expert, has arrived at the site to provide his expertise and help oversee the rescue operation. The involvement of international experts underscores the complex nature of the rescue efforts being undertaken at the tunnel, which is part of the under-construction route between Silkyara and Dandalgaon on the Brahmakhal-Yamunotri national highway.
