The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken significant steps in the ongoing Shivamogga trial blast case by issuing notices to four individuals from Thirthahalli. Shamsuddin, Rizwan, Najeeb Wulla, and Tamim, all residents of Thirthahalli, have been summoned to appear for questioning. The NIA has instructed them to report to the agency’s office in Bengaluru before noon on October 19.
The Thirthahalli case emerged after the Shivamogga police arrested two individuals, Maaz Muneer Ahmed and Syed Yasin, who were linked to the Islamic State and discovered explosive materials in their possession. Their arrest was in connection with a stabbing incident during a communal clash related to a poster of Hindutva ideologue Vinayak Damodar Savarkar in Shivamogga on August 15, 2023.
Details of the Case
During the investigation, Ahmed revealed that he and his associates had conducted a trial bomb blast along the banks of the Tungabhadra river. This experimental explosion, which took place at a location known as Kemmangundi, was considered successful. The group had acquired knowledge of bomb-making techniques through videos and materials sent to them by Mohammad Shariq, who had radicalized them.
Shariq initially evaded arrest but was eventually apprehended after an unsuccessful bomb blast attempt in Mangaluru. This incident was declared an “act of terror with the intention to cause serious harm.” Arafat Ali, the conspirator behind the Mangaluru blast, informed the NIA that Shariq had plans to execute further attacks at public places across the city.
Investigation Developments
The recent notices from the NIA have been issued due to suspicions that the terror module behind the Mangaluru and Thirthahalli blasts had intentions to target other significant locations within the city. These revelations emerged following the arrest of Arafat Ali, who had knowledge of Shariq’s plans to target public places across the city. This development underscores the need for a comprehensive investigation into these cases to ensure the safety and security of the region.
