NCW demands probe of call records of Arvind Kejriwal, others in Swati Maliwal assault case
New Delhi [India], May 27 (ANI): The National Women’s Commission (NCW) on Monday demanded that call records of all relevant persons, including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, be investigated to determine who called accused Bibhav Kumar to the former’s residence after AAP MP Swati Maliwal entered the premises.
Taking to the microblogging site, the NCW shared a statement on Monday in which it said that Arvind Kejriwal’s aide Bibhav Kumar was called to the former’s residence after Swati Maliwal entered the Chief Minister’s residence.In this respect, the NCW demanded that call records of all relevant persons, including Kejriwal, need to be investigated to determine who called Bibhav to the scene.”It has come to our notice that Bibhav Kumar was reportedly called after the arrival of Swati Maliwal at CM’s residence. A letter from Hon’ble Chairperson @sharmarekha has been sent to the Commissioner of Police Delhi to take CDRs of relevant individuals, including the CM, to ascertain on whose direction Bibhav Kumar was summoned,” NCW posted.
The Commission also took cognizance of the death and rape threats being received by Swati Maliwal and said that the accused must be dealt with stringently under the relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code. “Additionally, the Commission mandates strict action against individuals issuing rape and death threats to Maliwal. The accused person(s) should be charged under the relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code, 1860. A comprehensive report is expected in 3 days,” read the post.
The Tis Hazari court on Monday reserved an order after hearing lengthy arguments on the bail plea of Bibhav Kumar, accused in the Swati Maliwal assault case.Swati Maliwal, who was presented in the hearing, opposed the bail plea saying she was receiving threats and broke down in tears during the hearing.
At the outset, Delhi Police opposed the bail application by saying that it was not filed in an appropriate court.Bibhav Kumar is in judicial custody after a police investigation. He is to be produced before the court tomorrow.Kumar is accused of assaulting the AAP Rajya Sabha member at the chief minister’s residence on May 13. He was sent to four days’ judicial custody on May 24.(ANI)
