Nagaland Sees Alarming Rise in Dengue Cases

Nagaland has witnessed a significant surge in dengue cases, with 2,909 confirmed infections since June this year, marking the highest number in almost two decades. The state’s health department has reassured the public that the situation is under control and has called for calm.

Unprecedented Dengue Outbreak

Director of the National Health Mission, Nagaland, E Motsuthung Patton, stated that, based on records since 2005, the state has experienced a substantial increase in dengue cases. Out of 8,107 samples tested since June, 2,909 have returned as confirmed dengue cases. Notably, Dimapur has reported the highest number of cases, with 1,398 infections.

Preventive Measures and Vigilance

Despite the alarming rise in cases, health officials have emphasized that they are closely monitoring the situation and have it under control. They have advised the public not to panic.

In an effort to curb the spread of dengue, the health department has been actively conducting awareness campaigns, including workshops and house-to-house drives. These initiatives aim to educate the public about preventive measures and help control the further spread of the disease.

Tragic Loss

One dengue patient, described as having comorbidity, has tragically lost their life due to the illness in the state. This underscores the importance of public awareness and precautionary measures to combat the outbreak.

The health department’s focus on awareness and prevention is crucial in managing the dengue outbreak and reducing the risk to the population. Public cooperation and vigilance will be vital in controlling this public health challenge.
