Mukhtar Ansari Sentenced to 5.5 Years for Witness Threat in Nand Kishore Rungta Murder Case
Gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari has been sentenced to five and a half years of rigorous imprisonment by the MP/MLA Court. This verdict is in connection to the case involving the intimidation of witness Mahavir Prasad Rungta in the Nand Kishore Rungta murder case, a coal businessman from Jawahar Nagar, Bhelupur police station area of Varanasi.
The incident dates back to January 22, 1997, when Nand Kishore Rungta was kidnapped and later murdered. Subsequently, on November 5, 1997, Mahavir Prasad Rungta, a witness in the murder case, received bomb threats via his landline, warning him against filing a police complaint.

A case was registered at the Bhelupur police station on December 1 of the same year.Following investigations, the police filed a charge sheet against Mukhtar Ansari on July 3, 1998, presenting evidence of his involvement in the intimidation case.
This recent sentencing marks the seventh conviction for Mukhtar Ansari, including a life imprisonment sentence in the 1991 Awadhesh Rai murder case. Ansari’s history in criminal cases continues to reflect a series of legal implications.
