Kishtwar: The Jammu and Kashmir Home Department has ordered a temporary suspension of mobile internet services in parts of Kishtwar district as a precautionary security measure.

According to an official order, mobile data services — including 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G — have been suspended in Singhpora, Chingam and Chatroo areas of the district from 12:01 am on January 29, 2026, till 11:59 pm on January 30, 2026.

The directive was issued by Principal Secretary, Home Department, Chandraker Bharti, following inputs from the Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, who is the authorised officer under the Temporary Suspension of Telecommunication Services Rules, 2024.

The suspension applies within a six-kilometre radius of the identified locations. Authorities said high-speed mobile internet services could be misused by anti-national elements, potentially disturbing public order and posing a threat to security in the Union Territory.

The Home Department stated that the decision was taken in the interest of the sovereignty and integrity of India, security of Jammu and Kashmir, and maintenance of public order. The order has been confirmed under provisions of the Telecommunication Act, 2023 and the Temporary Suspension of Telecommunication Services Rules, 2024.

Officials said the situation will be reviewed and services restored once the security assessment allows.
