Midday Polling Update: Mizoram and Chhattisgarh Show Varied Voter Turnouts
By the time 1 pm had rolled around, Mizoram had seen a significant turnout of voters at 52.73 percent, while Chhattisgarh trailed a bit with 44.55 percent voter participation. These figures were released as part of the initial phase of polling for 20 assembly seats in Chhattisgarh, as per the latest data from the Election Commission. In a display of active civic participation, certain constituencies in Chhattisgarh reported even higher turnout percentages, signifying robust engagement in the electoral process.
Constituencies Show Enthusiasm with High Voter Turnouts
The assembly constituency of Bhanupratappur in Chhattisgarh was noted for the highest voter turnout with 61.83 percent, shadowed by an almost equal turnout in Kanker at 61.80 percent. Other constituencies were not far behind, with Mohla-Manpur at 56 percent, Antagarh at 55.56 percent, Kondagaon at 54.04 percent, and Keshkal at 52.66 percent. The early hours of the morning saw the commencement of the polling process, beginning at 7 am for ten seats, expanding to include more constituencies at 8 am.
Political Fate Hangs in the Balance for Key Leaders
The outcome of the polls is particularly consequential for several political leaders, including former Chief Minister Raman Singh and a host of BJP and Congress figures such as Bhawna Bohra, Lata Usendi, and Gautam Uike, among others. A total of 223 candidates, including 25 women, are contesting in this critical first phase in Chhattisgarh. In Mizoram, all 40 assembly seats are up for grabs, with noteworthy voter turnouts reported in various constituencies. Chief Minister Zoramthanga is contending for re-election, facing opposition from figures like ZPM chief Lalduhoma. The previous elections saw the MNF capturing a majority, which sets the stage for a potentially shifting political landscape in these regions. The subsequent phase in Chhattisgarh and the final count on December 3rd will determine the ultimate direction of power in both states.
