Meet Dr. Aijaz Ahmed from Doda: Inspiring Journey from Doda to JNU Fellowship Success
Doda::Dr. Aijaz Ahmed hails from the remote and backward village of Dhandal, situated in Tehsil Kastigarh, District Doda of Jammu and Kashmir. Despite his humble beginnings and challenging circumstances, he has emerged as a beacon of hope and inspiration for students not only in Doda but across Jammu and Kashmir.
His remarkable academic journey reached a new milestone when he secured the prestigious ICSSR Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Department of Social Medicine and Community Health at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, under the open category—a rare achievement from his region.
Dr. Aijaz completed his primary education in his native village before pursuing a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from Government Degree College, Doda. His path to academic success was not easy. Coming from a financially poor family, he was the first person in his family—and even in his entire village—to complete a Ph.D. in Medical Sociology from the prestigious Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
Qualifying UGC-NET and JKSET was another significant achievement in his academic journey. However, it was his consistency, determination, and hard work that helped him overcome hardships and pursue higher education. Driven by an unrelenting desire to quench his thirst for knowledge, Dr. Aijaz aspired to pursue a postdoctoral fellowship at JNU—widely regarded as the ‘Oxford of India.’

After persistently applying since 2021, his efforts finally bore fruit in 2024, when he was selected for the ICSSR Postdoctoral Fellowship. His story is a testament to the power of perseverance, dedication, and self-belief.
Dr. Aijaz Ahmed believes that failure is not the end but a stepping stone to success. He emphasizes that failures refine, reshape, and strengthen one’s resolve to achieve greater heights. His journey inspires those who feel discouraged by setbacks, reminding them that hard work, resilience, and unwavering faith in oneself can break all barriers.
Dr. Aijaz credits his success to the unwavering support and sacrifices of his parents and uncle’s family, who stood by him through every challenge. He remains deeply grateful for their encouragement and guidance, dedicating all his achievements to them.
Today, Dr. Aijaz Ahmed is not just an academic but a role model for countless students from backward areas who dare to dream big despite the odds. His journey symbolizes the triumph of determination over adversity and serves as a powerful reminder that education is the key to breaking barriers and transforming lives.
