MCD to Take Legal Action Against Property Tax Defaulters
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is set to initiate legal proceedings against property owners who have defaulted on paying taxes exceeding Rs 25 lakh.
After a thorough analysis, the MCD has identified property owners with significant outstanding property tax dues.
Legal Implications for Tax Evasion
Under the Municipal Act, property tax evasion over Rs 25 lakh could lead to rigorous imprisonment ranging from 3 to 7 years, along with a minimum fine of 50% of the evaded tax amount.
Property Tax Details on MCD Website
The property tax department has made tax details accessible on the MCD website, covering various types of properties, including those in authorized, unauthorized regularized, and unauthorized colonies, as well as residential properties over 100 sqm in rural villages.
Call for Data Correction and Verification
MCD urges citizens to verify their property details and correct any discrepancies at the respective zonal office. Properties not listed on the website indicate non-payment of property tax.
UPIC ID Registration Deadline
Property owners are encouraged to obtain their UPIC ID through the MCD portal by December 31, 2023. Failure to comply may result in legal action as per the municipal act.
Database Cross-Verification for Non-Payers
MCD has cross-referenced its property tax database with external sources like property registrations and utility bills to identify non-payers.
MCD appeals to all property owners to check their tax status and clear dues to contribute to the vision of a clean and green Delhi, thereby strengthening the civic body’s capabilities.
