Massive Protest Planned Tomorrow Seeking Murder Charges in Farmer’s Death
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) has taken a firm stand following the death of Subhkaran Singh, a 21-year-old farmer, during clashes between Haryana Police and Punjab farmers at the Punjab-Haryana border. The incident has triggered a series of demands and actions by the SKM, leading to heightened tensions in the ongoing farmers’ agitation.
Demand for Accountability:
In a bold move, the SKM has demanded the booking of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij for the alleged “murder” of the protesting farmer. This demand for accountability has further intensified the already charged atmosphere surrounding the farmers’ protest.
Black Day and Effigy Burning:
To express their grief and protest against the perceived injustice, the SKM has declared a ‘black day,’ scheduled for Friday. Additionally, effigies of key figures, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar, are set to be burned in a symbolic act of dissent. These actions reflect the deep-seated resentment among farmers and their supporters.
Tractor Marches and Mahapanchayat:
Undeterred by the recent tragedy, the SKM has announced plans for tractor marches on highways on February 26 and an All India All Kisan Mazdoor Mahapanchayat at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi on March 14. These initiatives showcase the determination of the farmers to continue their struggle, emphasizing that their movement goes beyond regional boundaries.
Call for Judicial Inquiry and Compensation:
In a bid for justice, the SKM leaders have not only demanded a case of “murder” against Khattar and Vij but also called for a judicial inquiry by a Supreme Court judge. Furthermore, a compensation of ₹1 crore for the deceased farmer’s family has been put forth as a crucial demand, underlining the economic hardships faced by many farmers.
The SKM’s steadfastness is evident in its decision to hold a separate agitation, independent of the Delhi Chalo movement, while extending support to it. The formation of a six-member committee, including prominent leaders like Balbir Singh Rajewal and Joginder Singh Ugrahan, underscores the collaborative efforts within the SKM to fight unitedly for their cause.
The ongoing ‘Delhi Chalo’ march, led by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM), continues to press the government for various demands, including a legal guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops and a farm loan waiver. The farmers’ grievances encompass a wide range of issues, from pension demands to justice for victims of past violence, illustrating the multifaceted nature of their struggle.
As tensions escalate, the farmers stand resolute in their pursuit of justice, demanding accountability, compensation, and systemic changes to address the challenges faced by the agricultural community. The coming days will reveal the unfolding narrative of this deeply rooted and passionate movement.
