Celebrating the Elders’ Legacy
In a heartwarming and empowering event, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the ‘Pensioners Sammelan’ in Srinagar, where he interacted with pension beneficiaries. This event served as a platform for expressing gratitude to the senior citizens who attended, acknowledging their invaluable blessings. The Lt. Governor also reaffirmed the commitment of the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Administration to ensuring a happy and healthy life for the elderly.
A Commitment to Tradition and Care
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha emphasized the deep-rooted tradition and civilizational duty of caring for the elderly. He stressed the significance of providing social security and unwavering support to vulnerable sections of society. For the J&K Administration, ensuring universal coverage and treating beneficiaries with respect stands as a top priority.
Achieving 100% Saturation: A Milestone
. Governor Sinha commended the District Administration of Srinagar for achieving a remarkable 100% saturation under the Integrated Social Security Scheme, which included disbursing pensions up to the month of September. He expressed the Administration’s commitment to reaching out to those in need and emphasized that the Integrated Social Security Scheme is demand-driven without restrictions. Currently, over 44,000 elderly, widows, and divorcees in Srinagar have benefited from this initiative, with potential for further enhancements.
J&K Administration Enhances Winter Machinery for Improved Snow Clearance
A Call for Replication and Innovation
Lt. Governor Sinha encouraged District Officials across the Union Territory to replicate the best practices of the Srinagar District Administration. He urged them to implement necessary technological interventions to expedite the saturation of the Social Security Schemes. The extension of an effective social security net to every individual in need is seen as a means to strengthen society and enhance the living conditions of urban poor and destitute.
Empowering Widow and Divorcee Pensioners
At the Pensioners Sammelan, Lt. Governor Sinha reassured the widow and divorcee pensioners and individuals with disabilities of the Administration’s unwavering support for their self-employment ventures. He also emphasized the efforts of the UT Government in extending universal health insurance coverage, providing greater security, and enhancing the quality of life for all residents.
In a unique initiative, Jammu and Kashmir has set the eligible age for widow pension at 18 years, demonstrating the Administration’s commitment to a wider demographic. Additionally, they have notified the rules of the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act and established a helpline for their proper care.
Moreover, Senior Citizen Clubs have been established in Panchayats across the region, along with Senior Citizen Homes in 13 districts, with plans to expand to all remaining districts in the near future.The Lt. Governor concluded the event by personally handing over sanction letters and medical aids to the beneficiaries, further ensuring their access to various social welfare schemes. Beneficiaries also took the opportunity to share their positive experiences with the simplified process for extending benefits under Social Security Schemes.
