Adilabad, September 11, 2023: A resident of Mandamarri town in Mancherial district, identified as M Ganesh, has fallen prey to a scam involving a part-time job offer through the Telegram app, resulting in a loss of Rs 6.15 lakhs. The incident unfolded when Ganesh received a message on the Telegram app on August 21, offering an investment opportunity. The message claimed that by investing Rs 1,000, he would receive a profit of Rs 300. Ganesh decided to invest and received Rs 1,300 as promised.
Encouraged by this initial success, he was then prompted to invest Rs 3,000, with the promise of a profit of Rs 900. As a result, he invested and received Rs 3,900. Subsequently, he was instructed to complete a series of five tasks, each involving increasing investments of Rs 7,000, Rs 20,000, Rs 65,000, Rs 1,50,000, and Rs 2,50,000, respectively.
Even after making these investments, he was urged to invest more. It was only at this point that Ganesh realized he had fallen victim to fraud and promptly reported the incident to the police.
In total, Ganesh lost Rs 6.15 lakhs in this scam. A similar case involving a man named Kalyan from the same town was also reported, where he was deceived into investing Rs 23,000 in the name of a part-time job. Both victims have filed complaints, and the police have registered cases. An investigation into the incidents is currently ongoing.
The police have urged people to exercise caution and refrain from sharing their bank account details with strangers, especially when encountering such offers on messaging apps.
