According to sources, train services are set to commence on the entire 184-km-long stretch from Baramulla to Sangaldan as part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link Project (USBRL) starting February 20th.
A top official from the Railway department revealed plans to introduce a new Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) and Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) train specifically for the Baramulla to Sangaldan sections. The USBRL project, a critical railway infrastructure initiative, aims to enhance connectivity and accessibility in the region. The official stated that work on the Sangaldan to Katra segment in the Reasi district is also nearing completion. Currently, the project stands at an impressive 96% completion rate, with the final 4% being actively addressed.
Challenges Overcome: Northern Railways Progresses Against Odds

The inauguration will mark the completion of a 48-kilometer railway line between Banihal to Sangaldan and the prestigious Chenab Rail Bridge. This signifies a significant leap forward in enhancing connectivity and infrastructure in the region.
Future Prospects: Transformative Impact on Kashmir’s Connectivity
The imminent opening of the Baramulla to Sangaldan sections underscores a transformative phase for the Kashmir Valley’s connectivity. As the railway network expands, it is expected to bring about economic development, tourism growth, and improved accessibility for residents.
