Lok Sabha Elections: Farooq Abdullah Applauds Congress Manifesto, Takes Aim at BJP
National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah lauded the Congress manifesto for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, expressing optimism about its implementation. Speaking to reporters after offering Jumatul Vida prayers at Hazrarbal Shrine, Abdullah described the manifesto as commendable, stating, “It is a good manifesto. What else do you want?”
Call for Oversight on National Probe Agencies
Abdullah emphasized the importance of bringing national probe agencies under the supervision of Parliament, suggesting that it could enhance transparency and accountability. His remarks underscored the need for institutional checks and balances to ensure fair and impartial investigations at the national level.

Commenting on the political landscape, Abdullah criticized the BJP for its alleged divisive tactics, particularly its attempts to polarize communities along religious lines. He expressed concern over the party’s strategies, cautioning against the potential consequences of such polarization. “I hope and pray that they do not succeed in their designs,” Abdullah remarked, urging for unity and harmony among the populace.
Meanwhile, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, who also attended prayers at Hazratbal, voiced grievances regarding the closure of the main religious and cultural center for Muslims in Kashmir on Jumatul Vida. Mufti condemned the ongoing restrictions imposed since August 5, 2019, describing the situation in Kashmir as akin to an “open air prison.” Her statements highlighted the enduring challenges and grievances faced by residents in the region, particularly in light of continued government actions and restrictions.
The sentiments expressed by both Abdullah and Mufti reflect broader concerns within the region regarding political representation, religious freedoms, and the impact of government policies on the daily lives of Kashmiri residents. As the Lok Sabha polls approach, these issues are likely to remain central to political discourse and public debate in the region.
