Landmine Explosion in JK’s Rajouri; Army Personnel Injured

An unfortunate incident occurred near the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, as an army personnel sustained injuries in a landmine explosion. The incident unfolded when Rifleman Gurucharan Singh, who was on patrol duty in the forward Kalsian village within the Nowshera sector, inadvertently triggered a landmine.

    Patrol Mishap Leads to Injury

During his patrol, Rifleman Gurucharan Singh unknowingly stepped on the hidden landmine, causing it to explode. The explosion left him injured and in need of immediate medical attention.

    Swift Medical Response

Following the explosion, Singh was swiftly transported to a nearby military hospital, where he received initial first aid treatment. Recognizing the need for specialized medical care, he was subsequently airlifted to Command Hospital Udhampur for further treatment.

    Counter-Infiltration Strategy

The incident underscores the army’s use of landmines as a key component of their counter-infiltration strategy. These mines are deployed to block potential infiltration routes and prevent armed terrorists from crossing into the region. However, occasionally, the placement of these explosive devices may become dislocated, especially during periods of heavy rains, leading to accidental explosions.
