In response to the escalating influx of tourists in Kupwara district in north Kashmir, the eco-parks curated by Kamraj Forest Division have emerged as significant attractions. This year, they garnered the interest of more than one lakh visitors, including over 1,000 offbeat destination enthusiasts who explored various routes. The establishment of these eco-tourism parks is a result of successful initiatives launched by the Kamraj Forest Division last year, aimed at maximizing the tourism potential of the district.

Three distinctive eco-tourism parks, namely Nagri Wari at Hatmulla, Kairwan at Dever Lolab, and Satbaran at Lastiyal Kalaroos, were meticulously developed and opened to the public. Not only have they become focal points for local residents, but they have also captivated visitors from different states. Praise for these eco-friendly parks has been not only local but also from impressed tourists. Throughout the summer, educational institutions and environmental enthusiasts, in addition to tourists and local visitors, flocked to these parks to immerse themselves in the beauty and tranquility they offer.

The eco-parks have played a pivotal role in creating livelihood opportunities, as makeshift stalls set up at these locations have provided income opportunities for unemployed youth and families. Developed under government initiatives, including the Green India Mission and CAMPA, these parks offer diverse experiences such as nature walks, bird watching, and photography.

This year alone, a staggering 109,500 tourists experienced the allure of these parks.Beyond the eco-parks, Kamraj Forest Division has meticulously crafted seven trekking routes, such as Kalaroose—Z Gali, Kuligam—Zaban, Harwan—Hilltop Zaloora, Watlab—Rajpura—Triumkhan—Dever, Rampur—Marbal—Yemberzalwari—Harwan, and Affan—Kailwan. These routes have been designed with great care to preserve the natural beauty of the surroundings. In the current year, over 1,100 trekking enthusiasts embraced these routes.

Looking ahead, the Kamraj Forest Division has ambitious plans to expand the eco-tourism footprint by developing five additional parks at various locations. This strategic move aims to further enhance the region’s overall appeal and sustain the positive momentum in tourism growth.
