KU Drops in NIRF Rankings, Jammu University Enters Top 50
SRINAGAR: The University of Kashmir (KU) and the University of Jammu (JU) have both secured spots among the top 50 universities in India and the top 100 institutions across the country, as per the latest National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) released by the Union Ministry of Education. KU has been ranked 45th and JU 50th among all universities, scoring 54.43 and 52.33 points, respectively.
This marks the first time JU has broken into the top 50 universities in the NIRF rankings.
In the overall ranking of all institutions, KU and JU have secured 69th and 87th national ranks, respectively, with no other institute from Jammu and Kashmir making it to the top 100.
In addition to KU and JU, six other institutes in JK have also been recognised in their respective categories, including the two agricultural universities, IIT Jammu, IIM Jammu, NIT Srinagar, and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University.
Though KU has performed better than JU in both the overall and university categories, its ranking has slipped from 33rd among universities and 56th among all institutions in 2023. Conversely, JU has significantly improved its ranking from 63rd to 50th among universities and made its debut in the top 100 overall rankings for 2024.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who serves as Chancellor of both universities, congratulated JU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Umesh Rai, along with faculty members and non-teaching staff, for this achievement. In a post on X, the office of LG J&K also congratulated KU, NIT Srinagar, SMVDU, SKUAST-Kashmir, and SKUAST-Jammu for their NIRF rankings.
Among the top 40 agricultural institutes, SKUAST-Kashmir has secured 10th place with 60.04 points, while SKUAST-Jammu ranked 20th with 53.91 points. Among engineering institutes, IIT Jammu and NIT Srinagar are the only ones from J&K to be ranked, securing 62nd and 79th positions, respectively.
IIM Jammu has been ranked 42nd among all management institutes in the country, while the Department of Architecture in SMVDU has been ranked 31st among the top 40 architecture and planning institutes.
