Ten enthusiastic students from Kishtwar District, Jammu and Kashmir, returned from an educational tour of ISRO’s Space Application Centre (SAC) in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Sponsored by District Administration Kishtwar in collaboration with DIET Kishtwar and Vyomika Space Lab, the tour was led by Dr. Meena Kumari and Anees Mohd.

The tour, which ran from July 15th to July 19th, 2024, marked a pioneering initiative in Jammu and Kashmir. Mr. Govind Yadav, CEO of Vyomika Space Lab, praised the effort. The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kishtwar, Dr. Devansh Yadav, IAS, held an interactive session with the students upon their return, inquiring about their experiences.

During the visit, the students met with Mr. Deepak Singh and Shri Nilesh Desai, Director of ISRO SAC. They explored the Vikram Sarabhai Space Exhibition, learning about rockets and satellites through interactive displays and 3D models.

The students delved into satellite operations at the Planetary and Space Information Laboratory (PLASIV Lab) and observed satellite payload construction at the Sensor Development Area (SEDA) and Microwave Remote Sensing Area (MRSA).

A highlight was the session with SAC Director Shri Nilesh Desai, who shared insights into ISRO’s history and upcoming projects like NISAR and NAVIC.

The students were also inspired by a visit to Science City Ahmedabad, featuring exhibits in robotics, the Aquatic Gallery, and the Nature Park.

The tour concluded with students expressing gratitude to DC Kishtwar for organizing the tour and inspiring future explorations in science and technology.

Dr. Devansh Yadav emphasized the importance of fostering scientific temper among students, particularly those from rural areas, and plans to expand space labs across the district to boost scientific learning.
