In a determined effort to combat illegal activities, the District Police Kishtwar successfully apprehended a bootlegger and seized 17 bottles of illicit liquor in the Shalimar area of Kishtwar town on August 28, 2024. This operation is part of a broader initiative by local authorities to crack down on the illegal liquor trade in the region.
The arrest was made following a tip-off, prompting the District Police Kishtwar, in collaboration with the Special Surveillance Team (SST), to establish a naka (checkpoint) in Shalimar.
The operation was conducted under the direct supervision of the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy. SP) Headquarters Kishtwar. During the checkpoint, a vehicle bearing registration number JK17A-7411 was intercepted. Upon searching the vehicle, 17 bottles of illicit liquor were discovered.
The accused, identified as Javed Iqbal, son of Abdul Rehman and a resident of Akhyar Abad, Kishtwar, was immediately taken into custody. The police have registered a case under FIR No. 209/2024 at Police Station Kishtwar, and an investigation is currently underway to uncover further details.
Authorities are particularly focused on determining whether the accused is part of a larger network involved in the illegal liquor trade.
The District Police Kishtwar have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining law and order in the region. They emphasize that operations like these will continue as part of their ongoing efforts to eliminate illegal activities and ensure the safety and security of the residents of Kishtwar.
