Keshav Maharaj Overtakes Mohammed Siraj as Top ODI Bowler
In a recent turn of events in the cricketing world, South African spinner Keshav Maharaj has dethroned Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj as the world’s number one bowler in One Day Internationals (ODIs). Siraj, who had just reclaimed the top spot from Pakistan’s Shaheen Shah Afridi on November 8, found himself second in the updated rankings released this Tuesday. Maharaj’s rise to the top is attributed to his impressive performance in the World Cup, where he took seven wickets in three matches, including a notable four-wicket haul against New Zealand in Pune.
Marginal Gap in Rankings
The competition for the top spot remains intense, with only a three-point difference in the ratings separating Maharaj and Siraj. Siraj’s performance in the tournament has been commendable, making him India’s fifth-highest wicket-taker with 12 wickets in nine games, including a best of three for 16.
Indian Bowlers in Top Rankings
India’s bowling lineup continues to feature prominently in the rankings. Jasprit Bumrah and spinner Kuldeep Yadav are currently ranked fourth and fifth, respectively. Bumrah leads as India’s highest wicket-taker in the competition with 17 wickets in nine games. Meanwhile, Mohammad Shami and Ravindra Jadeja are placed at the 12th and 19th spots, respectively, showcasing the depth and diversity of India’s bowling attack.
Indian Batsmen Hold Strong Positions
On the batting front, Indian opener Shubman Gill retains the top position, ahead of Pakistan captain Babar Azam by eight rating points. Gill, the sixth-highest run-scorer for India in the tournament, has amassed 270 runs in seven matches. Virat Kohli maintains his fourth position as the highest run-scorer for India, amassing an impressive 594 runs, including two centuries and five fifties. Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul also hold respectable positions in the rankings, underscoring the strength of India’s batting lineup.
Ravindra Jadeja Among Top All-Rounders
In the all-rounders’ category, Ravindra Jadeja is placed tenth, while Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan continues to dominate the top spot. Hardik Pandya, another key all-rounder for India, has dropped to the 16th position following an ankle injury that ruled him out of the competition. This shift in rankings reflects the dynamic and ever-changing nature of international cricket, where players continually vie for top positions based on their performances.
