The Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kerala has unveiled plans for a cabinet reshuffle, affirming its commitment to coalition partners. EP Jayarajan, the LDF convener, revealed that Transport Minister Antony Raju from the Democratic Kerala Congress and Ports Minister Ahammad Devarkovil from the Indian National League have tendered their resignations.

Jayarajan informed the press that the new ministers would take their oaths on December 29, with their portfolios to be decided by the Chief Minister.

Ramachandran Kadannappally of Congress (S) and KB Ganesh Kumar of Kerala Congress (B) are slated to be sworn in as ministers for the remaining term.

Following the LDF’s ascension to power in May 2021, a pact among the CPI(M)-led coalition assured cabinet positions to four single-MLA parties on a rotational basis to adhere to constitutional guidelines limiting the cabinet size to 21 members.

Antony Raju, upon submitting his resignation, mentioned his readiness to step down earlier but deferred due to the Nava Kerala Sadas.

He expressed satisfaction in resigning as the Transport Minister after settling salary dues for the KSRTC staff.

Similarly, Mr. Devarkovil conveyed his contentment with his ministerial tenure over the past two-and-a-half years.

The impending cabinet reshuffle underscores the LDF’s commitment to maintaining equitable representation among its coalition partners, aligning with the agreed-upon rotational arrangement.
