Key Highlights:

- Suspension applies to both government and private schools.
- Teaching and non-teaching staff required to attend duties as usual.
In response to the ongoing heatwave, the divisional administration of Kashmir has announced a suspension of class work for students up to the primary level in both government and private schools on July 29 and 30, 2024.
This decision was made to ensure the well-being of young students amidst the extreme temperatures currently affecting the region.
The official order was issued by the Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, V. K. Bidhuri. The order clearly states that while the students will not be required to attend classes, all teaching and non-teaching staff are still expected to fulfill their duties and be present at their respective schools during these two days.
“In view of the persistent heatwave prevailing in the valley, classwork for students up to the primary level in both government and recognized private schools shall remain suspended on 29th and 30th July 2024,” Bidhuri’s order reads.
Despite the suspension of classes for young students, the administration emphasized the importance of maintaining regular operations within the schools. This includes ensuring that teaching and non-teaching staff continue their regular attendance and responsibilities.
The decision to suspend classes is a precautionary measure aimed at safeguarding the health of young children who are particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of extreme heat.
The administration’s proactive approach reflects their commitment to the safety and well-being of the students in the region.
As the heatwave persists, authorities will likely continue to monitor the situation closely and take necessary actions to mitigate the impact on the population, especially vulnerable groups such as young children.
