Karnataka BJP Demands CBI Probe into Recent I-T Raids
The Karnataka BJP staged a protest in Bengaluru, calling for a CBI investigation into the recent Income Tax (I-T) raids that led to the discovery of substantial amounts of cash and valuable items. The demonstrations followed earlier protests in Karnataka against the Congress government, linking Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar to alleged corruption in light of the I-T raids. The I-T department had seized approximately Rs 94 crore in cash, as well as gold, diamond jewelry worth Rs eight crore, and 30 luxury watches, following raids on government contractors and real estate developers in Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Delhi. In Karnataka, I-T officials confiscated about Rs 42 crore in cash from a contractor and his son.
Accusations of Corruption and Fund Diversion
Former Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, who led the demonstration, accused the Congress of having an agenda to loot and collect money for poll-bound states. He argued that Karnataka had become an ATM for funding elections in five other states. Gowda called for a CBI probe to expose those behind the alleged corruption and fund diversion.
