    Kambala Makes Its Bengaluru Debut

The traditional buffalo race, ‘Kambala,’ a spectacle from coastal Karnataka, is all set to make its first appearance in Bengaluru. Scheduled for November 25 and 26 at the Palace Grounds, the event is expected to draw significant attention. Organizers have announced their intention to bring not just the race but also the rich culture of coastal Karnataka to the state capital. This includes an array of cultural experiences, cuisines, and heritage displays, aiming to give attendees a comprehensive taste of the region.

    Cultural Showcase and Cinematic Inspiration

Prakash Shetty, chairperson of the organizing committee, emphasized the desire of the coastal Karnataka community to introduce Kambala on a larger stage. The event gains additional interest in light of the Kannada blockbuster ‘Kantara,’ which featured Kambala, sparking curiosity among those unfamiliar with the tradition. As part of this cultural exhibition, 139 pairs of buffaloes from the coastal region are being brought to Bengaluru, with former Minister HD Revanna sponsoring their food and accommodation.

    Special Preparations and Honorary Stages

In a meticulous preparation for the event, even the water for the buffaloes has been transported to Bengaluru to ensure their well-being. The main stage is named in honor of the late Kannada actor Puneeth Rajkumar, and the event itself is dedicated to the erstwhile Mysuru Maharaja, Sri Krishna Raja Wadiyar. These gestures highlight the event’s deep-rooted connection to Karnataka’s cultural and historical heritage.

    Inclusive Participation and Grand Rewards

With an expected attendance of around two lakh people and an estimated expense of Rs 7.5 to 8 crore, the event is set to be grand in scale. The rewards are equally impressive, with the winner receiving 16 grams of gold and Rs one lakh. The event is notably inclusive, with participation from diverse communities, including six Muslim and four Christian groups. Celebrities like Anushka Shetty will add glamour to the occasion. However, organizers have placed strict guidelines for photography and media coverage to ensure the safety of the buffaloes and participants.
