Eid-ul-Fitr In Afghanistan Today As Crescent Sighted
Afghanistan on Wednesday officially announced that Eid ul-Fitr will be observed on Thursday following the sighting of the crescent moon marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
Government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said the decision was made after confirmation from the Supreme Court of Afghanistan, which verified moon sightings reported from several provinces, including Farah, Helmand, and Ghor.
As part of the Eid celebrations, authorities also announced the release of 4,596 prisoners, while the sentences of 4,407 others have been reduced, according to reports.
Eid ul-Fitr, one of the most significant festivals in Islam, marks the conclusion of a month of fasting, prayer, and reflection, and is celebrated with communal prayers, charity, and gatherings among families and communities.
