    Key Highlights:

    1. Elections in Jammu & Kashmir to be held in three phases starting September 18.
    2. 87.09 lakh voters registered, with a significant increase in youth participation.
    3. 90 assembly constituencies, with a notable focus on women voters.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced in New Delhi that the final electoral roll for Jammu & Kashmir will be published on August 20, immediately after the conclusion of the Amarnath Yatra on August 19.

The state’s much-anticipated assembly elections will be held in three phases, with voting dates set for September 18, September 25, and October 1. The counting of votes is scheduled for October 4.

The recent delimitation has resulted in 90 assembly constituencies in Jammu & Kashmir, comprising 74 general seats, 6 reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs), and 9 for Scheduled Tribes (STs).

The total number of registered electors in the region stands at 87.09 lakh, with a notable increase in youth voters, who make up over 20 lakh of the electorate. This surge in youth participation is being seen as a significant milestone in the region’s democratic process.

Kumar highlighted the enthusiasm displayed by voters during the Lok Sabha elections, where long queues at polling stations underscored the triumph of democracy in the region.

He emphasized that this enthusiasm is expected to carry over into the upcoming assembly elections, with an even higher voter turnout anticipated.

Women voters make up a substantial portion of the electorate, with 42.6 lakh female voters registered across the 90 constituencies.

Kumar expressed confidence that women would turn out in large numbers, continuing the positive trend of increased voter engagement in the region.
