Promising Cricketing Extravaganza on the Horizon
The Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Sports Council recently held a constructive meeting with the organizing committee of the Legends Cricket League. This significant gathering was spearheaded by former international cricketer Nikhil Chopra, and also featured the Delhi Cricket Association’s (BCCI) pitch curator, Ankit Dutta. Their meeting marked a crucial milestone in the quest to bring top-tier cricket to the picturesque Moulana Azad Cricket Stadium in Jammu.
Charting the Path for a Grand Cricketing Spectacle
During the deliberations, Sarmad Hafeez, Secretary of Youth Services and Sports (YSS), provided insights into the collaborative efforts underway to organize a series of Legends Cricket League matches in November at the esteemed Moulana Azad Cricket Stadium, Jammu. Inspecting the Ground for Perfection
Following these initial discussions, the Legends Cricket League team had the privilege of touring the Moulana Azad Cricket Stadium. They meticulously inspected the existing facilities, expressing their contentment with the arrangements made thus far. They did, however, suggest some minor adjustments and enhancements to ensure a world-class playing environment.
Honoring J&K’s Sports Legacy
During the preliminary interaction, Ranjeet Kalra, a representative of the J&K Sports Council, delved into the rich history of sports in the region. He elaborated on how the administration has consistently demonstrated its commitment to the successful organization of national and international events over the past few years.
Paving the Way for a Grand Event
The visiting team paid special attention to the turf wicket, requesting that the venue be handed over to them as early as possible to facilitate meticulous pitch preparation, given the participation of many former international players in the event. They also assessed the floodlights for optimal lighting during match hours and inspected various player and match official facilities.
Nikhil Chopra, while speaking during the visit, emphasized the importance of having sufficient time to prepare the wickets and outfield to meet international standards. He also requested that, during the preparatory period, the venue not be allocated for any other activities due to the magnitude of the upcoming event and the extensive work required to ensure the grounds are in pristine condition.
Secretary of the Sports Council, Nuzhat Gull, shared her optimism, stating that preparations for the grand event were well underway. If all proceeds according to plan, the Moulana Azad Stadium may soon become a regular host for both national and international cricket events. This partnership holds the promise of putting Jammu and Kashmir on the global cricketing map, garnering excitement and anticipation from cricket enthusiasts far and wide.
