According to the news agency Kashmir Dot Com, Police Station Beerwah registered FIR No. 109/2024 under Sections 126(2) and 351(2) of the BNS. The complaint has been filed against unnamed individuals believed to be workers of the National Conference.
The incident took place during campaigning for the Beerwah constituency, where Sugra Barkati, the daughter of imprisoned Sarjan Ahmad Wagay, also known as Sarjan Barkati, was leading the election effort for her father.
Barkati, currently jailed, is contesting as an independent candidate from both the Ganderbal and Beerwah assembly segments.
Sugra claimed that her supporters were assaulted and their campaign vehicles were vandalized during the attack. A video showing Sugra fainting after the incident went viral on social media, sparking widespread outrage and calls for action from political leaders across the region.
Many have condemned the alleged attack and demanded a full investigation into the incident. In response to the growing outcry, the National Conference has denied any involvement and has called for a thorough and impartial inquiry to ascertain the facts.
The situation has heightened tensions in the lead-up to the assembly elections, with many observers closely watching developments as the investigation unfolds.
