JK Police Arrest Two Drug Peddlers, Seize Heroin and Cash in Kishtwar

Kishtwar, Sept. 15, 2024 — In a significant success for District Police Kishtwar’s anti-drug campaign, two notorious drug peddlers were arrested with a heroin-like substance and cash in their possession.According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar, Abdul Qayoom, the arrests were part of ongoing efforts to dismantle the narcotic supply chain in the region.
Based on intelligence about narcotics smuggling and sales targeting the district’s youth, a police team led by SHO Kishtwar, under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy SP) Headquarters Kishtwar, set up a checkpoint near Shalimar, Kishtwar.
The police team intercepted two suspicious individuals who attempted to evade inspection. Upon their arrest, officers discovered a heroin-like substance weighing about 5 grams and seized a substantial amount of cash from the suspects.
The individuals were identified as Touheem Hussain, resident of Umar Masjid, Kishtwar, and Suhail Ahmed, resident of Banderna, Kishtwar. A case has been registered against them under FIR No. 225/2024, with charges filed under Sections 8/21/22/29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The police have launched a comprehensive investigation to uncover the full extent of the drug network.
SSP Kishtwar emphasized the importance of examining the financial transactions and other linkages of the accused. The police are working diligently to identify all parties involved in the illegal drug trade.
