JK HC Announces 15-Day Winter Break for District Courts
The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh declared a 15-day winter vacation for district courts across specific regions, encompassing the Kashmir Valley, certain areas in the Jammu division, and Ladakh starting from January 1.
Registrar General Shahzad Azeem issued a notification, stating, “The District Courts in Kashmir province and the Courts situated in District Kishtwar; District Doda; Courts at Batote, Gool, Banihal, and Ukhral in District Ramban; and Bani in District Kathua of Jammu Division in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, along with all Courts in the Union Territory of Ladakh, will observe a 15-day winter vacation from 01-01-2024 to 15-01-2024 (both days inclusive).”
Additionally, the order underlined the responsibility entrusted to the Principal District and Sessions Judges and Chief Judicial Magistrates in the respective districts.
It mandated them to devise appropriate mechanisms to handle urgent criminal cases that may arise within their jurisdictions during this vacation period.
The directive accentuates the significance of ensuring the effective disposition of pressing criminal matters, necessitating suitable arrangements to manage such cases within the specified areas during the winter break.
The emphasis lies on the proactive role that the designated judicial authorities need to play in handling urgent criminal business within their jurisdictional purview during this vacation period.
