J-K Government Mandates Online Classes Amid Winter Challenges in Colleges

In response to the challenges presented by the early onset of winter conditions, the Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education Department has issued an order mandating the initiation of online classes across all government degree colleges in the Kashmir region, effective from December 1, 2023.

Dr. Ravi Shanker Sharma, the Special Secretary to the government, highlighted the difficulties faced by students in commuting to Government Degree Colleges of Kashmir Division due to the early winter conditions. The disruption of normal class activities and insufficient heating arrangements have exacerbated the situation.

The official communication underscored the hardship experienced by students who, based on merit and choice, have to travel long distances or find accommodation in hostels or private residences, especially given the severe winter conditions. In light of these challenges, the decision was made to ensure uninterrupted academic delivery in adverse and extremely cold conditions.

All Principals of Government Degree Colleges in Kashmir Division have been instructed to conduct online classes from December 1, 2023, until December 31, 2023, or until the announcement of winter vacations, whichever occurs earlier. This directive aims to address the challenges posed by the weather conditions and to facilitate continued education for students.

Furthermore, college principals have been urged to ensure the regular attendance of faculty members at their respective colleges. This is crucial to conducting online classes in accordance with the academic calendar, ensuring the completion of the syllabus, and maintaining the quality of education.

The official announcement also confirmed that all internal examinations and semester-end examinations will proceed as per the schedule notified by universities or institutions. This comprehensive approach seeks to address the challenges posed by the early winter conditions and to prioritize the academic well-being of students in the Kashmir region.
