The Ongoing Search Efforts
As the fifth consecutive day of the search operation in the dense Gadole forest area of Kokernag unfolds, the security forces are tirelessly striving to apprehend a group of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants responsible for the tragic killing of four security personnel. This operation, led by the Srinagar-based Army’s 15 Corps, has become one of the lengthiest anti-militancy missions in the Kashmir Valley.
Utilizing Advanced Technology
In their relentless pursuit, the security forces have harnessed advanced technology to gain the upper hand. Drones and helicopters are now deployed to conduct aerial surveillance over the rugged terrain of Gadole in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district. These assets are instrumental in narrowing down the elusive militants’ location, believed to be a group of two to three LeT operatives concealed within the forest.
Uncompromising Assault on Hideouts
To root out the militants hiding within the natural caves of the forest, security forces have taken a relentless approach. They are employing drones not just for surveillance but also to deliver mortar shells, grenades, and ammunition to possible hideouts within the forest area. This multifaceted strategy aims to flush out the militants from their concealed positions.
Accidental Injury Amidst the Operation
Amidst the ongoing operation, a paramilitary CRPF jawan, who was part of the Road Opening Party (ROP) duty in an adjacent area, sustained an unfortunate injury when he was accidentally hit in the foot. Swift action was taken to evacuate and transport the injured CRPF personnel to the hospital for immediate medical attention.
Tragically, the encounter that instigated this extensive operation unfolded on September 13th, claiming the lives of three dedicated security personnel: Colonel Manpreet Singh from the 19 Rashtriya Rifles, Major Ashish Dhonchak, and Deputy Superintendent of Police Humayun Bhat. Additionally, another soldier succumbed to his injuries on September 15th, bringing the death toll in this encounter to four.
Despite the challenges and the duration of the operation, the security forces remain unwavering in their mission to neutralize the LeT militants responsible for this act of violence. As they persist in their efforts, the nation watches with bated breath, hoping for a swift and peaceful resolution to this ongoing crisis.
