India’s NIA Apprehends 15 ISIS Members in Extensive Operation
On December 9, 2023, India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) executed a bold operation against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), showcasing a resolute commitment to national security.
This strategic move resulted in the apprehension of 15 suspected operatives in a meticulously coordinated crackdown spanning the states of Maharashtra and Karnataka.
The arrested individuals were allegedly orchestrating efforts to disrupt peace and communal harmony by promoting violent Jihad and establishing a ‘liberated zone’ in Padgha village, rural Thane, referred to as ‘Al Sham.’
Unmasking ISIS Operations: NIA’s Strategic Strike
The NIA revealed that the accused actively encouraged young Muslim individuals to relocate and consolidate their presence in Padgha.
This operation unfolded through meticulous planning, involving simultaneous raids at 44 different locations. The outcome was significant, yielding a substantial cache of unaccounted cash, firearms, edged weapons, incriminating documents, smartphones, and digital devices.
Global Nexus: Foreign Handlers and Terrorism Plot
The detained individuals were reportedly engaged in manufacturing Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) under the guidance of foreign handlers, with intentions to carry out terrorist acts within India.
This revelation underscores the imperative for global cooperation to counteract the interconnectedness of terrorist organizations and mitigate cross-border threats.
Key Arrest: Saqib Nachan and ISIS Maharashtra Module
Among the arrested, Saqib Nachan, identified as the leader of the ISIS Maharashtra module, faced accusations of administering oaths of allegiance to ISIS. This signifies the group’s concerted efforts to expand influence and recruit new members.
The arrest of Nachan deals a significant blow to the terror organization’s activities within India.
This NIA crackdown forms part of an ongoing endeavor to thwart ISIS’s terror plots in India. Earlier this month, the NIA charged five individuals associated with the Islamic State of Khorasan Province (ISKP), revealing plans to travel to Afghanistan for training.
The consistent efforts of the NIA underscore the unwavering commitment of the Indian government to safeguard its citizens from the persistent threat of terrorism.
