Hangzhou, China, September 24: Indian shooters marked their entry into the Asian Games with a stellar performance, clinching the women’s team silver medal in the 10m air rifle event on September 24.
China Dominates, India Secures Silver
In a thrilling competition, the trio of Mehuli Ghosh, Ramita Jindal, and Ashi Chouksey showcased their experience and determination. Their combined score of 1,886.0 secured the second spot, trailing behind the formidable Chinese team. Hosts China exhibited exceptional prowess by smashing the Asian record with an astonishing 1,896.6 points.I

The excitement doesn’t end with the team silver. India has a promising chance at an individual medal in the women’s 10m air rifle event, as both Mehuli and Ramita have advanced to the eight-shooter final, scheduled later in the day.
Outstanding Qualification Performance
During the qualification round, 19-year-old Ramita displayed incredible talent, finishing second with an impressive score of 631.9. Mehuli wasn’t far behind, securing the fourth position with a score of 630.8 points. Their consistent and stellar performances placed them on the path to individual glory.

Competing at the Highest Level
The road to the final was no cakewalk, as they faced stiff competition. All three Chinese shooters—Han Jiayu, Huang Yuting, and Wang Zhilin—earned their spots in the final, showcasing the dominance of the host nations South Korea’s Lee Eunseo, Mongolia’s Ganhuyag Nandinzaya, and Chinese Taipei’s Chen Chi completed the eight-team final lineup.
Team Success in Shooting
In shooting, team medals are determined by the combined scores of a country’s shooters in the qualification round. India’s trio, comprising Mehuli, Ramita, and Ashi, proved their mettle during the qualification round, ensuring their aggregate score of 1,886.0 was enough to secure the coveted team silver.
Mehuli Ghosh: The Rising Star
All eyes are now on Mehuli Ghosh, a 22-year-old shooter who is making a remarkable comeback. An individual medal at the Asian Games would be the crowning achievement for the talented shooter from West Bengal. She already boasts Youth Olympics and Commonwealth Games silver medals in her collection, along with four ISSF World Cup medals across individual, women’s, and mixed team events.
