Indian Shooters Clinch Gold and Silver at Asian Games
Indian shooters continue to shine at the Asian Games, with a world record-setting performance in the men’s 50m rifle three-positions team event and a silver medal in the women’s 10m air pistol team event.
Record-Breaking Victory in Men’s 50m Rifle Three-Positions
The men’s 50m rifle three-positions team, consisting of Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Swapnil Kusale, and Akhil Sheoran, achieved a remarkable feat. They not only secured the gold medal but also set a new world record with a total score of 1769 points. This victory marked India’s fifth gold medal in shooting at the Asian Games.
Aishwary and Swapnil also qualified for the individual finals, ranking first and second after the qualification round. This exceptional achievement is a rare occurrence in a sport typically dominated by Chinese shooters at the Asian level.

Individual Brilliance
- Swapnil Kusale, considered a medal prospect at the upcoming Paris Olympics, delivered an outstanding performance, setting the qualification Asian and Asian Games records with a score of 591.
- Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar matched Swapnil’s score but secured second place in the finals due to having fewer shots closer to the bulls-eye.
Despite finishing fifth in the qualification round with a score of 587, Akhil Sheoran missed out on the individual finals as only two shooters per country are allowed to participate.
Exceptional Accuracy Under Pressure
Both Swapnil and Aishwary demonstrated remarkable precision, averaging 9.850 out of a maximum score of 10 in each shot during the qualification round in all three positions—kneeling, prone, and standing. Their performances were particularly impressive given the fierce competition from the Chinese shooters.
Silver Medal in Women’s 10m Air Pistol Team Event
Esha Singh, the 18-year-old Indian shooter, led the women’s 10m air pistol team to a silver medal. The team, which also included Palak and Divya TS, secured the silver with a total score of 1731 points. China claimed the gold with an Asian Games record of 1736 points, while Chinese Taipei won the bronze with 1723 points.
Esha Singh and Palak qualified for the individual finals, ranking fifth and seventh after the qualification round.
This success adds to India’s impressive performance in shooting at the Asian Games, with a total of 15 medals, including five golds, highlighting the country’s dominance in the sport.
