Indian para-athletes have etched their names in the annals of history by reaching a monumental milestone – they have claimed their 100th medal at the ongoing Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, with Dilip Mahadu Gavit’s gold medal win. Gavit’s remarkable achievement came in the Men’s 400m T47 event, where he clinched the prestigious gold with an impressive run time of 49.48 seconds. This marks India’s most successful campaign in the Para Asian Games to date.
Indian Contingent’s Record-Breaking Performance
As of now, India has secured a total of 26 gold medals, 29 silvers, and 45 bronze medals, surpassing the 100-medal mark. This achievement surpasses India’s previous best medal haul at the 2018 Para Games in Jakarta when they won a total of 72 medals, including 15 golds, 24 silvers, and 33 bronzes.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his admiration for this remarkable feat and highlighted the inspiration it provides: “100 MEDALS at the Asian Para Games! A moment of unparalleled joy. This success is a result of the sheer talent, hard work, and determination of our athletes. This remarkable milestone fills our hearts with immense pride. I extend my deepest appreciation and gratitude to our incredible athletes, coaches and the entire support system working with them. These triumphs inspire us all. They serve as a reminder that nothing is impossible for our youth.”
