Indian Ministry of Home Affairs Cancels FCRA Registration of Centre for Policy Research

India’s Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has revoked the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) registration of the Centre for Policy Research (CPR), a prominent public policy research institution in New Delhi. The MHA alleges violations, asserting that CPR misused foreign contributions by diverting funds towards litigation against development projects and supporting protests. This move comes after previous suspensions and scrutiny of CPR’s FCRA registration. CPR’s President, Yamini Aiyar, called the basis for cancellation incomprehensible and disproportionate, stating that the institution would challenge the decision in the Delhi High Court.
