The legendary cricketer breathed his last at his home after a prolonged battle with illness. Bedi is survived by his wife Anju, son Angad, and daughter Neha. His demise marks the end of an era in Indian cricket.

Born in Amritsar in 1946, Bedi’s cricketing career was nothing short of remarkable. He played 67 Tests for India, amassing 266 wickets with an impressive tally of 14 five-wicket hauls and one 10-wicket haul. Bedi was a crucial part of Indian cricket’s golden quartet of spinners, which also included Erapalli Prasanna, Bhagwat Chadrasekhar, and Srinivas Venkataraghavan. Together, they formed the core of India’s bowling unit for over a decade between 1966 and 1978.
Not only was Bedi a stalwart on the field, but he also contributed off the field. He served as the manager of the Indian cricket team in 1990 during tours of New Zealand and England. Additionally, he took up the role of a national selector and became a mentor to many talented spinners, such as Maninder Singh and Murali Kartik, who valued his technical insight.
