Indian Army Chief to Review Counter-Terrorism Measures Amid Recent Attacks in Jammu
In response to the recent surge in terrorist attacks in the Poonch-Rajouri sector, Indian Army Chief General Manoj Pande is anticipated to visit Jammu on Monday to assess the prevailing situation and fortify the counter-terrorism framework, as per defence sources.
This visit follows an unfortunate incident where four troops lost their lives in a terrorist attack on a convoy near Thanandi in the Rajouri sector. General Pande’s agenda includes a comprehensive review of the ongoing counter-terrorist operations and discussions on fortifying the region against such threats, informed defence sources.
The 16 Corps, responsible for the Poonch-Rajouri sectors, is undergoing a routine change in command. Incumbent Lt Gen Sandeep Jain is set to hand over command to Lt Gen Naveen Sachdev. Concurrently, the Army Headquarters is closely monitoring the situation and operational activities in the region.
Emphasizing the gravity of the situation, the Army is considering assigning responsibilities to officers experienced in managing areas that have witnessed multiple attacks on troops recently, particularly in the 13 Sector Rashtriya Rifles area.
Furthermore, high-level defence ministry officials are expected to visit the region this week. Their visit aims to gain insights into the ground situation and understand the strategic steps being undertaken to counter the upsurge in Pakistani terrorists’ activities in the area.
The Indian Army remains vigilant, bolstering its readiness along the Line of Control and the International Border to thwart any attempts by infiltrators from across the border. The recent incidents have prompted an intensified preparedness to ensure the security and integrity of the Indian territory.
