India Witnesses Significant Growth in Milk, Egg, and Meat Production

India’s milk production has seen a remarkable increase of 22.81% over the past five years, according to the basic animal husbandry statistics for 2022-23 released in Guwahati on National Milk Day. Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Parshottam Rupala highlighted that Uttar Pradesh leads the country in milk production, contributing 15.72% to the total. The total milk production in the country during 2022-23 is estimated at 230.58 million tonnes, reflecting a consistent growth trend in the dairy sector.

Egg and Meat Production: Rising Trends

The country also registered significant growth in egg production, with an estimated total of 138.38 billion during 2022-23, marking a 33.31% increase over the last five years. Andhra Pradesh leads in egg production, contributing 20.13% to the total. Similarly, meat production in India saw a growth of 20.39% over the past five years, reaching an estimated 9.77 million tonnes during 2022-23. Uttar Pradesh again leads in this sector, contributing 12.20% to the country’s total meat production.

Wool Production Experiences a Decline

In contrast to the rise in milk, egg, and meat production, wool production in the country has seen a decrease of 16.84% over the past five years. The total wool production during 2022-23 is estimated at 33.61 million kg, with Rajasthan being the largest contributor, accounting for 47.98% of the total production. Despite the overall decline, there has been a slight increase of 2.12% in wool production compared to 2021-22.
