Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur recently celebrated India’s remarkable success at the recently concluded Para Asian Games in Hangzhou. The nation secured a total of 111 medals, an achievement that sets a new benchmark for sports in the country.
Record-Breaking Medal Tally
India’s outstanding performance at the Para Asian Games in Hangzhou exceeded all expectations. The country’s previous best performance was at the 2018 event in Indonesia, where India earned 72 medals. This time, India outdid itself by securing 111 medals, showcasing the country’s growing prowess in the field of para sports.
A Bright Future for Indian Sports
During his interaction with the participants, Sports Minister Anurag Thakur praised the Indian athletes for their stellar achievements. He highlighted the nation’s bright future in sports and emphasized that India had set new milestones in various sporting disciplines. The Minister also shared the news of a 2.5 times increase in the sports budget, demonstrating the government’s commitment to nurturing sporting talent.
Diverse Medal Haul
India’s impressive medal tally included 29 gold medals, 31 silver medals, and 51 bronze medals. The country finished fifth in the overall medal standings, showcasing its strength in para sports. Athletes excelled in various categories, including athletics, para-badminton, archery, para-shooting, chess, para-canoe, para-lifting, para-judo, para table-tennis, rowing, para-swimming, and taekwondo.
Global Recognition
While India secured a significant position in the medal tally, it was surpassed by China, Iran, and Japan, who clinched the top three spots. China led the way with an impressive haul of 521 medals, including 214 golds, highlighting the competitiveness of the Para Asian Games.
