India Bolsters Ties with Nordic-Baltic Nations for Enhanced Cooperation
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasized the significant expansion in India’s engagement with the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) in recent years. Speaking at the second CII India Nordic Baltic Business Conclave, Jaishankar noted the opening of Indian embassies in Tallinn and Vilnius, with plans to soon open another in Latvia. Furthermore, he mentioned Finland’s new consulate in Mumbai, marking a growing diplomatic presence.
Boost in Mobility and Business Cooperation
Jaishankar highlighted the increase in mobility between India and the NB8 countries, facilitated by direct flights between India, Finland, and Denmark. He underscored the development of “appropriate institutional frameworks” with these nations, focusing on business-to-business cooperation. With Finland, India has established dialogues on sustainability, digitalization, and education.
Strategic Partnerships and Initiatives
The External Affairs Minister also pointed to India’s strengthening green strategic partnership with Denmark, focusing on collaborations in water solutions, wind energy, green hydrogen, and agriculture. He mentioned India’s collaboration with the Faroe Islands, Greenland, and Iceland in areas like geothermal energy and fisheries. The partnerships extend to Norway for the blue economy, wind and geothermal energy, and other sectors.
Expanding Cooperation with Baltic Nations
Jaishankar spoke about India’s interactions with Baltic nations, exploring new avenues for cooperation in e-governance, cyberspace, IoT, startups, defense technology, supply chain, and logistics. He acknowledged the need for continued efforts to strengthen these relationships further.
