If Someone Practices Cross-Border Terrorism, a Response is Necessary: EAM S. Jaishankar
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar delivered a resolute stance on India’s long-standing battle against cross-border terrorism, highlighting pivotal events like the 26/11 attacks as key moments.
Emphasizing the gravity of terrorism issues since India’s inception, Jaishankar underscored the historic significance of the Mumbai attacks as a turning point in the country’s battle against terrorism.
Jaishankar firmly asserted the need for proactive responses against cross-border terrorism rather than adopting a passive approach.
He dismissed the strategy of turning the other cheek and stressed the imperative of responding and imposing costs on those practicing such nefarious activities.
Addressing the media during the 3rd convocation of Rashtriya Raksha University in Lavad, Gandhinagar, Jaishankar acknowledged terrorism as a persistent challenge. He reiterated India’s unwavering commitment to delegitimize and combat terrorism, recognizing its evolution influenced by technological advancements.
Jaishankar elaborated on the multifaceted nature of counterterrorism efforts, advocating for India’s expanded role in ensuring the security of neighbouring nations and the broader Global South.
He highlighted potential contributions spanning financial, health, and energy support to achieve a secure environment.
India’s strained relations with Pakistan, characterized by concerns over cross-border terrorism, have hindered normal bilateral ties.
The relations soured further after India’s decision to revoke Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, leading to diplomatic expulsions and trade halts initiated by Pakistan.
Jaishankar’s statements underscore India’s unwavering stance against terrorism and its commitment to fostering regional and global security through multifaceted approaches, despite strained relations with Pakistan.
