Haryana Home Minister Suspends 372 Investigating Officers Over Pending FIRs

Haryana’s Home Minister, Anil Vij, has taken a significant step to address the issue of pending First Information Reports (FIRs) that have been lingering for over a year. In an official directive, Mr. Vij instructed the Director General of Police to suspend 372 Investigating Officers (IOs) across the state, holding them accountable for not taking appropriate action on these long-pending cases.

Suspended Investigating Officers

In his letter to the Director General of Police, Mr. Vij ordered the immediate suspension of 372 IOs distributed across various districts of the state. This stern action has been taken due to the failure of these officers to address FIRs that have remained unresolved for over a year.

Mr. Vij explained the rationale behind this mass suspension, stating that he had previously emphasized the need to expedite the resolution of prolonged cases. In May, the department had reported approximately 3,229 cases that had remained unresolved for more than a year, causing distress to the individuals involved. The officers responsible for these cases were summoned, and out of the 372, a significant number did not provide satisfactory explanations. Consequently, the decision to suspend them was made to ensure accountability.

Immediate Transfer of Pending Cases

In addition to the suspension of the IOs, Mr. Vij called for the prompt transfer of the pending cases to the respective Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs). These cases are to be handed over to the DSPs with a stern warning that they must be finalized within one month. Failure to meet this deadline will result in action being taken against the responsible officers.

The breakdown of the suspended IOs includes 60 from Gurugram, 32 from Faridabad, 10 from Panchkula, 30 from Ambala, 57 from Yamunanagar, 31 from Karnal, 3 from Panipat, 14 from Hisar, 66 from Sirsa, 24 from Jind, 5 from Rewari, 31 from Rohtak, and 9 from Sonipat.

This decisive action by the Haryana Home Minister aims to expedite the resolution of pending cases, bringing relief to the affected individuals and ensuring greater accountability within the police force.
