Government Advisory to TV Channels on Sensitivity in Covering Uttarakhand Rescue Operations
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued an advisory to private television channels, urging them to exercise caution in covering the ongoing rescue operations at Silkyara, Uttarakhand. The advisory emphasizes the need for sensitive reporting, considering the psychological impact on the families of the 41 workers trapped inside a tunnel for over 10 days.
Channels are advised against sensationalizing the coverage and are requested to refrain from live broadcasts or videos from the proximity of the rescue site. The advisory highlights the potential negative impact that intrusive media presence and sensational reporting could have on the rescue operations and the mental state of the workers’ families.
Ensuring Non-Disruption of Rescue Efforts
The advisory stresses the importance of ensuring that the life-saving activities by rescue agencies are not disrupted or disturbed by the presence of media personnel, cameras, or other equipment near the operation site.
Sensitivity Towards Families and Viewers
Television channels are reminded to be cautious and sensitive, particularly in their choice of headlines, videos, and images. The advisory calls for due consideration of the sensitive nature of the operation and the psychological wellbeing of the families and viewers.
