Authorities at Trichy airport seized 306 grams of gold, valued at Rs 19.17 lakh, from a passenger arriving from Dubai. The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) revealed that the passenger resorted to concealing the gold in his stomach by swallowing 20 oval-shaped packets filled with a paste-like material.

Acting on specific intelligence, the AIU officers detained the individual upon his arrival via Air India flight IX 612 to Trichy Airport on 16th December 2023. Subsequently, the passenger was presented before a Judicial Magistrate due to suspicions raised regarding the concealed material.

To ascertain the concealment method, the individual was admitted to the General Hospital in Trichy for an X-ray examination. The X-ray findings confirmed the presence of 20 oval-shaped packets within the stomach, indicative of gold concealment via ingestion.

Following established medical procedures, doctors successfully retrieved the ingested packets, leading to the recovery of the concealed 24k gold. This incident underscores the persistent attempts of individuals to smuggle gold through innovative yet unlawful means, resulting in vigilant actions by the airport authorities.
