Glenn Maxwell Stuns with Record-Breaking Century in Cricket World Cup
Maxwell Achieves 40-Ball Century
Australian cricket all-rounder Glenn Maxwell left the cricketing world awestruck with his stunning century in the Cricket World Cup match against the Netherlands. Maxwell’s 40-ball century featured eight fours and eight sixes, breaking records and showcasing his explosive batting prowess. This remarkable achievement surpassed the previous record set by South Africa’s Aiden Markram, who reached a century off 49 balls in the same venue.
A Record-Breaking Performance
Glenn Maxwell’s century not only set a new record for the fastest century in a Cricket World Cup but also marked the fourth-fastest century in all ODIs. South Africa’s AB de Villiers holds the record for the fastest century in ODIs, achieving it in just 31 balls against the West Indies in 2015. New Zealand’s Corey Anderson and Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi also feature in the top four.
Maxwell’s Remarkable Innings
Despite not expecting such a remarkable performance, Maxwell’s century propelled Australia to a total of 399-8, setting the stage for an emphatic victory against the Netherlands. Maxwell’s outstanding display earned him the Man of the Match award. Maxwell expressed his admiration for the Netherlands’ fielding efforts, acknowledging their excellent saves during the initial overs.
Australian captain Pat Cummins described Maxwell as “a freak” and applauded his clean hitting, stating that bowlers have no options when a player is in such exceptional form.
