
GDC Doda concludes 2-week long activities under Gandhi Jayanti Celebrations
Doda, October 02: The series of activities held regarding the celebration of Gandhi Jayanti concluded with a valedictory function held in the college premises today.
The different activities and programs were organised from the 15th of September under the overall supervision and guidence of Principal of the college Dr Attar Singh Kotwal and in presence of IQAC Coordinator and incharge principal Dr Ajaz Ahmed Wani.
The main organisers of these activities were Prof. Mohd Ashraf, Dr Jaghmohan Sharma, Dr Anita Kotwal, Prof Purnima Manhas, Prof. Upma Kumari, Dr Akhter Hussain, Prof. Syed Kazim, Dr Tasir Sharief, Prof. Preeti Devi, Prof Imteyaz Ahmed and Dr Tabassum Saleem. Debate Committee, NSS and NCC infantry and naval units of the college also cooperated in organising these activities.

On 18th September, a slogan writing competition was held under the theme ‘Truth and Non-Violence’ in which fifteen students participated and three students namely Pawan Kotwal, Meenakshi Rana and Fitra were adjudged first, second and third respectively.
The next event in the series was an essay writing competition which was held on 19 September on the theme ‘Satyagraha’ and three students namely Tauheed Ahmed, Mehboob Ahmed and Umar Nadeem were declared first, second and third respectively.
On 20th September, a book reading competition was held. Books to be read were ‘My Experiment with Truth ’ and ‘All are Brothers’.
A large number of students participated in this contest and three students namely Sumbal Ara, Sagar Thakur and Gayoor Ahmed got first, second and third position respectively. On 21st, a movie was screened on the life and struggle of Gandhiji. On the same day an awareness program was held on ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat and Bharashtachar Mukt Bharat’ .
On 22nd September, an intra-college declamation contest was held on ‘Truth and Non-Violence’ under the directions of Director Colleges HED of J and K . This was a part a series of contests to be concluded on 30th of September.
Three students namely Amir Maseeb, Mahboob Ahmed and Sagar Thakur were declared first, second and third respectively. These students the participated in the district level inter-college declamation contest on 26th September held at GDC Doda as the lead college.
On 25th, an extension and awareness outreach program was held at Govt. Hr. Sec. School Koti and Middle School Basti by the faculty members of college including Prof Mohd Ashraf (HOD History) , Prof. Syed Kazim (HOD Economics) , Dr. Tasir Sharif (HOD Botany), Dr. Mohd Aslam (HOD Chemistry) and Prof. Imtiaz Ahmed (zoology).
The main purpose of the outreach program was to make students aware about the Gandhian philosophy, principles of truth and non violence, hazards of drugs, natural and unadulterated food intake, clean and healthy individuals in a clean surrounding. On 26th September, inter-college declamation contest on this theme was held in GDC Doda. Students from other colleges viz GDC Bhadrwah, GDC Kastigarh also participated in this contest. Amir Maseeb from GDC Doda got first position and got qualified for the final round of contest held at Govt College for Women, Parade Ground Jammu on 30th of September.
On 27th September, a cleanliness drive was held within the college campus. A large number of college faculty, students collaborated by NSS and NCC units both infantry and naval wing also participated in this drive. On 30th September, first a cleanliness drive was held within the college campus along NSS and NCC units of the college which was followed by the valedictory function was held in college.
The winners from the earlier contests and events were awarded with mementos. This valedictory program was coordinated by Prof Mohd Ashraf. Dr Jaghmohan Sharma presented the welcome address. Prof Syed Kazim presented the report of all activities held under this theme. Dr Jamsheed Ahmed also spoke on this occasion. He laid stress upon the students to follow the principles of truth and non-violence in their practical life and to be the messenger of such ideas.
Dr Ajaz Ahmed Wani in charge principal in his presidential address congratulated the organisers of these events. He advised the students to propagate these ideas far and wide so that the dream of the father of the nation shall get realised in true sense.
The program was attended by a large number of faculty members comprising Dr Anita Kotwal, Prof. Purnima Manhas, Prof. Upma Kumari, Dr Akhter Hussain, Dr Neelam Saba, , Prof Younis Rashid, Prof Zain Bin Hussain and others. Dr Masood Ayoub Kaloo presented the vote of thanks.
