Fire Incident at PGIMER-Chandigarhs Nehru Block Prompts Swift Evacuation
In a recent incident, a fire erupted on one of the floors within the Nehru block of PGIMER-Chandigarh during the early hours of Tuesday. Fortunately, officials confirmed that all patients were successfully evacuated to safety.
The fire originated in the computer room situated on the first floor of the building. Smoke from the blaze subsequently ascended to higher floors within the facility.
Prompt and effective action was taken to control the fire, as fire tenders were swiftly deployed to the scene. These firefighting efforts ultimately brought the situation under control.
Following the outbreak of the fire, multiple agencies and departments immediately responded to the emergency. This included the fire and emergency services, disaster management departments, police, and the hospital’s own emergency response system.
PGIMER officials, in conjunction with the disaster management department, confirmed the safe evacuation of all patients from the affected area. An official from the disaster management department stated that they received information about the fire within the Nehru block of the hospital.
He further elaborated, saying, “All patients were safely evacuated, we cleared the ICU (Intensive Care Unit), respiratory ICU. Our rescue team worked in coordination with the police, the fire department, and PGI departments.”
The exact cause of the fire has yet to be determined, and investigations are ongoing.
